Suppose an Eyes: New Poems for A New Year

25 January 2022

I joined this community of writers in 2018 and the group persists through the pandemic! En la virtuelle! Real poetry legacy of a group founded in the 1990s and housed at Kelly Writer’s House. My set begins at 17:45 and I read 5 poems.

Waterproof Launch!

10 December 2021

I had the opportunity to be in community with lots of people who love Miami and are pre-mourning what will happen to our beloved city with the effects of climate change. A virtual reading with 20 Waterproof contributors (virtual).

Words and Wine (Miami)

30 June 2021

The 11th year anniversary of Words and Wine at The Anderson! Was so happy to be part of the celebration and share some poetry love. There is a TRAGIC story of how my brother recorded my set (with visual!) but then his phone got water damage and we couldn’t save the recording, big sigh but hey, live in the moment, tu sais??

Moonstone Arts Center Reading

12 May 2021

I was invited by Sean Hanrahan to read alongside Regie Cabico and Israel Colon for Moonstone Arts Center. I am particularly proud of this event because it was a lot of poems I don’t usually perform; it’s a teense climate-fatalism focused. And! A poem about a SUPER crush. I might one day get the video recording of this.. we shall see..

Defunkt Magazine, Volume VII Virtual Launch

25 March 2021

I was invited to feature for this virtual launch in Texas, where they published “Krima.” While pandemic and transitioning to virtual was definitely difficult for someone who loves l i v e performance, I would not have been able to participate otherwise! Was even reading with the indomitable Lupe Mendez! (My poems start around minute 1, first there’s an intro but it’s hard to hear — ah technology.)

A Night of Poetry

17 October 2020

Presented by A Novel Idea, A Night of Poetry celebrated the launch of Erric Emerson’s newest book of poetry, Which Way is Up?. Featured readers included Alan Toltzis, Mabel Lee, myself, and the esteemed Erric E.

The Hatchery Poetry Series

16 June 2020

In partnership with A Novel Idea, I was selected to participate in The Hatchery Poetry Series. This was the first virtual event I read for (thus the lack of audience sound, sigh). I read 4 poems: Invitation, Coordination Lacking, La Yuma Learns a Few Things, En Rumbo.

Frank Báez

11 June 2020

During the month of April, I felt very blessed to participate in what would have been a month long poetry festival in the city of Miami, but turned into a virtual affair. One of the readings was by a Dominican poet Frank Báez with the English translations of his work. His first book had several poems that enchanted, and the reading was divine. I share here one of the ones that most spoke to me, feeling relevant as ever.

14 December 2019

I am incredibly grateful to have been selected as a poet for A Novel Idea’s Philly Poet Reading Series. I shared 3 poems and 1 comedic monologue: Blue & Green, Mid-Twenty Maternal, Baby’s First Winter*, How warm are the folds*.

The Right Hands Sketch Show, “Baby’s First Winter”

7 February 2019

As part of Philly Improv Theater’s Sink-or-Sketch series, I was put together with a bunch of random people and we put up a sketch show in just! three! weeks! This is one of the skits I wrote, a monologue based off a fictional character who moves from Miami to Philadelphia.

Two Poems at Churchill’s on a Monday Night

“La Yuma Learns a Few Things” and “Six Feet Stampede”. Listening to these today really takes me on a time capsule… Shoutout to the open mic nights I grew up on, OG Miami, etc..
